It's about time

I was going to attempt to write a very clever post about the fact that I finally picked up the sticks again and started knitting last night, but instead I spent most of the evening cleaning my old sewing machine to give to my friend, Lori, who I have corrupted into sewing along with me. It inspired me to post some instructions (and revealing photos) on how to do it, so in case you are interested, they are here.

So, yes, I've been knitting. I started the Surplice Lace Top from Nashua Handknits Designer Collection No. 4 with the Dale of Norway Svale I bought at the Getaway last month. I know that it's a risky substitution: Svale is sportweight and the Natural Focus Ecolologie Cotton called for in the pattern is classified as worsted, but dang it, I fondled them both for quite a while and they felt the same. My gauge was a perfect 4 inch square using the recommended needle size (how often does THAT happen?). Quite excitedly, I cast on and started knitting. After the 5th row of the lace pattern, I realized that it looked a little ... wide. Uh oh. I measured. So far, it's almost an inch too wide. Given that there's already 2 and 1/2 inches of ease in the smallest size (36.5" finished measurement for a 34 bust), I take this as a major red flag.

Say "bye bye". I'm going to frog it and start over with smaller needles. So much for that!

It's been a busy week (lots of working out and surfing for fabric online) and I've been thinking a lot about how I "spend" my time, now that I have rearranged my entire schedule to fit in this gym business. Just for giggles, here's my time budget:

I SPEND Time:

  1. Working
  2. Sleeping
  3. Eating
  4. Blogging
  5. Working out
  6. Sewing
  7. Knitting
  8. Shopping (that includes groceries)
  9. Socializing

I WASTE Time:

  1. Looking at fabric online
  2. Figuring out what to wear in the morning
  3. In traffic
  4. Messing with my hair
  5. Picking out which kind of shampoo/deodorant/toothpaste to buy (there are too many choices)

I KILL/PASS Time:

  1. Surfing the 'net
  2. Looking at magazines
  3. Window shopping
  4. Watching/listening to TV
  5. Knitting
  6. Thinking about sewing/knitting/what to do next

I TEST Time:

  1. Hitting the snooze button one. more. time.
  2. Staying up too late

Speaking of staying up late, I just realized what time it is! I need to go to bed!

I'm off to my Mom's tomorrow. Wherever you are, I hope your weekend is hot and sunny!

Thanks so much for the clean machine. I hope I don't have to call you with too many questions and problems. Maybe I should just move in your craft room and make things easier on both of us! Your the best!
